Award-Winning Dallas Filmmaker presents his International Collaboration Film in Sherman

(Sherman, TX) The Guinness World Record-breaking, multi-award winning team of filmmakers, CollabFeature, bring their second multi-director feature film “TRAIN STATION” to Sherman for a special event.  The film, written and directed by an unprecedented 40 filmmakers from 25 countries, follows a single main character played by different actors.  The film just completed an original theatrical tour that included Berlin, Los Angeles and Chicago and a successful festival run that included five “Best Feature” awards.  Local arts non-profit Ghost Town Arts Collective is bringing the film to Sherman for a special one night only screening.

The film will screen in Sherman for one night only at Venue off the Square, 223 S. Travis Street, Sherman TX on Saturday, November 11 from 6-9 pm.  CollabFeature director and producer Daniel Montoya will be present to introduce the film, and a Q&A with Montoya will follow the screening. Tickets are $10, and can be purchased online at www.ghosttownartscollective.org.  Email us at ghosttownartstx@gmail.com with questions or for more information.

“Train Station” is a universal story of fate, decisions and destiny. It follows a single character, known only as “The Person in Brown”, played by 40 different actors, ranging in age, gender, ethnicity and sexual orientation. Along his/her journey, he/she is presented with a series of choices, some small and some life altering. Every time a choice is made, the film switches to a new cast, a new city, and the same story continues, helmed by a new director. Cities include Berlin, Bogota, Dallas, Detroit, Dubai, Jakarta, Los Angeles, Singapore, Tehran and 20 other cities in five continents.

“Train Station” unites cultures and embraces diversity, breaking language and political barriers, reminding us that we all share a world full of differences, options and consequences.

With “Train Station”, CollabFeature is set to break its own Guinness World Record for Most Directors of a Film set in 2012 by its award-winning debut feature, “The Owner,” created by 25 directors. “Train Station” has almost double that number with 40 directors, giving new meaning to the term “collaborative filmmaking.” With new multi-director projects in production, CollabFeature continues to have a direct impact in modern independent filmmaking. Its unprecedented cross-cultural collaboration and shared creative ownership approach have been covered by over 65 media outlets including Huffington Post, CNN, MTV Lebanon, Vogue and the Times of India.

Mini Life Drawing Session

In order to make the most of our time at Venue off the Square, where we are hosting the Best/Worst show this Saturday, we are also hosting a mini life drawing session!
We will have a clothed model to pose for us for one hour, and you can come and draw with us for free (please note the model will not be nude, as the space has large picture windows at the front).  Space permitting, we will hang up our “best” and “worst” drawings to be part of the show that evening. We will have some newsprint and something to draw with, but please bring your own supplies if you want anything nicer than that.  We will not have easels, so you may want to bring a large sketch pad with a hard back, or a drawing board and clips if you prefer to use loose paper.  We will do a short warm up series, then two or three poses that are 10-20 minutes in length. Please arrive a few minutes early to set up so we can begin promptly.
Who: anyone who is interested in drawing from life
What: Mini life drawing session
When: Saturday, September 16 from 4-5 pm
Where: Venue off the Square, 223 S. Travis Street, Sherman, TX
Why: To get in a little drawing practice and enjoy the company.
And did I mention that this is free?
By the Way…..
Sherman’s Arts Fest is this Saturday on the Municipal lawn just a few blocks away, so it is a great opportunity to make a day of it in Downtown Sherman.  In addition to live music, festival foods, and the many arts&crafts booths selling everything from jewelry to pickles, the Sherman Art League will have their Annual “Fine Arts Show and Sale” on display inside the Municipal Ballroom at 400 N. Rusk from 10am-4:30 pm, AND the Texoma Woodcarvers Guild usually has a show too that’s really neat.
If you plan to attend the Mini Life-Drawing session, please let me know so we can try to set up for the right number of people.  However, if you decide at the last minute that you’d like to come, please do feel free to join us even if you haven’t reserved a spot.
Hope to see you Saturday!

Best of / Worst of

Ghost Town Arts Collective Presents:

Best of / Worst of

A.K.A. The S H * T  S H O W

Calling All Artists with a Sense of Humor

Sometimes things just don’t work out quite like you want them to.  Even with a swell idea and a careful application of great skill, sometimes we make work that, well, doesn’t work.  Have you been looking for the perfect place to exhibit your greatest artistic failure?  The GTAC has you covered.

We invite you to be brave with us this fall and show us your worst right alongside your best.  All artists are required to submit TWO pieces for this exhibit; your best, and your worst.  Your “best” might be your newest work, or an old favorite, or something simple that just really turned out well.  Your “worst” might be something that is just plain bad, or something that comes close but doesn’t quite work, something you have overworked, or something you have simply grown out of.  We do ask that it is something you made with a sincere effort, not a fake bad thing made for the show.  And no humble bragging, please.

We hope that this exhibit will be a chance for us to share with one another our processes, and to maybe even take some inspiration from our failures and successes.  We also hope that the audience will be enlivened by the opportunity to discern the good from the bad.  Instead of standing opposite the creations and wondering what makes them good, patrons will know full well that one is supposedly good, and one is supposedly bad. But which one? Each artist’s works will be displayed as a pair, void of any labels that separate the sh*tty from the sublime. There might even be some patron voting involved…!

Put your ego on the shelf and join us for the S H * T  S H O W.  Don’t delay – the opening reception is Sept. 16th!

How to Submit: Submit your Entries now through September 10 by emailing photos to ghosttownartstx@gmail.com.  All work that meets the criteria of the show will be accepted.

Entry fee: $20 (that’s $15 for your best, and $5 for your worst) cash or check, due upon delivery of the work

Delivery of Work: September 10 – 14 (details will be sent in reply to your entry)

Opening Reception: Saturday, September 16, 2017 6 – 9 pm

@ Venue off the Square, 223 S. Travis Street in Downtown Sherman, TX

Return of Work: Work can be take home at the end of the reception (after 8:30), or picked up/shipped back the following week by arrangement.  Shipping costs are the responsibility of the artist.
